Carpal tunnel syndrome is a caused by compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. This narrow passageway is surrounded by bones and ligaments, and any swelling or narrowing can compress the nerve, leading to pain and other symptoms. Carpal tunnel syndrome is often associated with repetitive hand movements, wrist injuries, and certain health conditions.
